PRS Permacel Private Limited was acquired by the PRS Group in 1999. Permacel started its operations, in India, in the late 1950s as a division of Johnson & Johnson (India). In the global restructuring process, the worldwide business of Permacel was sold by Johnson & Johnson in the early 1980s. 

Permacel India was an exception and continued as part of Johnson & Johnson (India) till it was acquired by Premchand Roychand & Sons.

The initial years saw Permacel establishing itself as the Indian leader in tapes manufacturing. In the late 1960s, Permacel entered the label making business, as the pioneer of speciality-printing technology in India. Being at the forefront of related innovations and technology, Permacel grew to become the market leader by the late 1970s, in India.

Today PRS Permacel offers solutions for brand protection, identification & insulation problems and is the only company in India in its industry to be awarded both the coveted ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 certifications. For its brand protection business, PRS Permacel has established Kavach as a separate division.
